A Closer Look at the Craft

Start at the top. A winged angel stands with her arms outstretched and her robes falling in soft, classical folds around her. Her wings spread wide. Look closely, and you can trace the individual feathers. Each one carved with care, not just suggested with a tool.

Drop down a tier and the mood shifts. A ring of putti — those chubby, curly-haired cherubs of Renaissance tradition — gather around the central pedestal in playful poses. Above them sits a shallow basin, its rim wrapped in carved leaves. Below them, a larger basin fans out. Tiered edges and overflow spouts guide the water down in a quiet, even sheet. Further still, Corinthian columns wrap the central core. Their capitals carry ornate acanthus-leaf details. A floral band circles the base where the columns meet the ground pool.

Just the Core, or the Full Piece

Here’s something worth knowing. Some of our clients don’t buy the full fountain. They take just the core — the caryatids, the upper basin, the top finial. It feels lighter. More intimate. But it still carries every bit of the carving. Same figures, same detail, just a quieter kind of presence. If your garden leans toward a tucked-away corner rather than a grand entrance, it’s an option worth a look.
